I loved this letter. I read some of the comments on the original post and thought I would answer one of them here. The post asked how anyone could not understand what they were getting into and where had they been for 2 summers? I'll tell you! They were being courted by a big firm. Come to this party, bring the wife. Here are tickets for a concert, bring the wife. We're having a barbecue at my home, which is big beautiful and surrounded by luxury cars. My wife will be there dripping in jewels and the kids will be well groomed and play their violins. They don't tell you this is wife #3 and the kids live with wife #2 most of the year or that the 15 year old is in drug rehab and hates his dad because he is never around. And...once you are employed there is no more, bring the wife. It's we're going to this great hotel for a weekend retreat but we'll be busy so leave the wife at home. In short summer internships are far from reality.
The purpose of this blog is to give attorneys and their families a place to laugh, cry, and discuss the highs and lows of a career in law. My focus is on firm work, because my husband works for a major firm in the LA-OC area. I am a stay at home mother of four- one boy (H 10) and three girls (E 7, HB 3, S 2). I needed a place to vent all of the blahs that come with my husband's (R) job, and know there are others out there that need it too.
